3 COUNTIES MATCH REPORT:  LUTON SWORDS

(match report by Team Captain Richard R.)

Last Thursday, we hosted Luton Swords Club, who did something of a first by bringing 7 fencers!  Another 2-piste affair with friendly bouts afterwards, it’s great to see the turnout for away matches when only 3 are required.

Our Foil team of Simon, JD and Giles had a fantastic match, winning 8-1!  Epee was a closer affair, after 6 of 9 bouts it was 3-a-piece.  Luton beat SAFC on epee last time and have some solid fencers, but our squad of James L, David and myself won the last 3 in a row with some very close bouts.  It finished 6-3 SAFC.

So an overall win SAFC 14 – 4 LUTON

Congratulations to all that fenced and special mention for James L. in his first 3C match, and hopefully the first of many.

*IMPORTANT* SAFETY & EQUIPMENT NOTICE

We’ve recently had some instances of fencers wearing unsafe equipment.

It is individual’s responsibility to ensure their kit meets the minimum required safety standards, as set out in BF policies & guidelines:

https://www.britishfencing.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Safety-Guidelines-2024.pdf

https://www.britishfencing.com/policy-zone/safety-policies-guidelines/

Some issues we’ve seen recently include breeches that are not long enough (or a gap between jacket & breeches – not OK), mask straps that are too slack, gloves with holes, and socks that don’t cover the lower leg or fall down.

If your kit is not deemed safe by the a member of the committee, you may not be permitted to fence. (Please note that fees are not refundable in these circumstances.)

Please ensure that your equipment and clothing is suitable.  If in any doubt, please ask for guidance.
