THURSDAY 10.07
Fencers rejoice! 👏👏🤺
for we are back in the main sportshall again, and for the forseable future. Enjoy the space! 🙏
There’s a lot happening this Thursday, so please note the following:
Coach Tony will be taking the Beginner Course which starts this week
Please keep an eye out for anyone looking unsure of where they need to be and give our Beginners the usual very warm SAFC welcome
Coach Laura will take the group warm up & individual lessons (these are included in the nightly fee, please put your name down on the list)
3 COUNTIES LEAGUE
This Thursday we host BEDFORD which will no doubt be fiercely contested match. Good luck SAFC!
On Tuesday, a team of four SAFC fencers headed away to LUTON SWORDS

The match began with FOIL (JD, David & James B) and it was a tough start against a very experienced opposition. There were some very close matches but we had to give best; Luton just edged a win 5-4.
EPEE next (Adam, David & James B) and Luton couldn’t match their earlier performance in foil; SAFC had the upper hand and took a 6-3 win.
The Epee result also gave us the OVERALL match WIN: final score LUTON 8 – 10 SAFC
Well done team 👏 & thanks to Luton for being great hosts as always – it was a great friendly & competitive match🤺🤺🤺
*IMPORTANT: SAFETY*
Referees are responsible for the safety of fencers.
Fencers MUST be stationary and in an ‘En Garde’ position BEFORE “Ready” and only then ‘FENCE’ if both fencers are ready & able to go.
DO NOT simply say ‘En Garde-Ready-Fence’ in one sentence. It is meant to be 3 distinct & separate statements.
As soon as any hit is registered on the scoring box, or if a fencer leaves the piste or the action becomes unsafe, the referee MUST call HALT (loudly & clearly – so both fencers hear)
There seems to be a misconception circulating recently that this is not the case, but fencing does not stop until the ref calls “Halt”, even if fencers think a hit has been recorded.
Thank you for your attention
