LAST THURSDAY
We hosted our fencing neighbours Dacorum (Hemel) for a Three Counties League Match.
Which proved to be a somewhat one-sided affair… and not in our favour, unfortunately!
Dacorum fielded a team of 3 young but very experienced epeeists who turned out to be very handy at foil as well.
Foil first and SAFC’s team of JD, Giles and Simon were outgunned, with some close matches but Dacorum taking that 6-3.
We knew the Epee would be tough but Dacorum were on another level, as might be expected with at least two of their three fencers competing at a high level. Despite a couple of very close bouts, Dacorum closed us out with a 9-0 win.
Yes 9-0. Depressing as the score doesn’t reflect just how close some of the bouts were. But that’s how it goes.
Congratulations to Dacorum with a 15 – 3 win overall. Let’s hope we do better in the next match!
SABRE MATCH @ BEDFORD
Thanks to Bedford Fencing Club for hosting a 4-way Sabre match with SAFC, Watford and Stort Valley Sabre Club
There were 8 teams in total: 4 from SVSC, 2 from Bedford and 1 each from St. Albans and Watford. After a lot of matches, the winners were SVSC ‘C’ team. We look forward to the rematch!
