3 COUNTIES LEAGUE: 2024 RECAP

Three Counties League Clubs: St Albans, Hitchin, Bedford, Watford, MK, Dacorum & Luton

So the results. If any of you recall 2023, it was a clean sweep for Hitchin across Foil, Epee, and the overall League, but what happened last year?

FOIL

It went down to bout indicator again between Hitchin and Bedford!  Both Hitchin and Bedford tied in matches just like last year, but those extra bout wins pushed Hitchin to the overall win for Foil! The top 3 clubs of Hitchin, Bedford, St Albans, retain the same positions for 2024 as for 2023 in foil, but there’s a notable improvement for Milton Keynes who really upped their game in 2024 after their bottom place finish in 2023 – it can be done!

EPEE

For Epee there’s bit of a shift in the top 3 from last year, with St Albans performing worse and dropping from 2nd in 2023 to mid-table in 2024. MK have risen impressively from last place in 2023 to medalling with 3rd, Bedford took 2nd and, it’s another win for Hitchin – congrats!

LEAGUE

A reminder that 2023 finished with Hitchin top, Bedford and then St Albans in a tight 2nd and 3rd place.   This year, MK’s winning antics combined with the handicap boost propelled them into a well-deserved 3rd place finish with 28 points.  Our 3C regular rivalry between Bedford and Hitchin didn’t disappoint, with both clubs finishing absolutely level on wins, losses, draws, and bonus points!!!   With the new handicap system kicking in, last year’s winners Hitchin needed to better Bedford to win, so this level pegging means that Hitchin finish 2nd and Bedford claim the first place crown for 2024!

THANK YOU AND CONGRATS TO ALL CLUBS! [Report by Team Captain Richard R]
