19.09.24: OPEN AIR 2024 / NO FENCING TONIGHT

There’s a lot to cover this week…

Starting with a reminder that there is NO FENCING TONIGHT (19.09) due to a school event.

Fencing resumes as normal next week, so Monday 20.15-22.00 and Thursday 20.00-22.200.

Please remember that you need to MAKE A BOOKING for each session you wish to attend.

We’ve made some minor changes to the booking form so if you have any issues booking in, please let us know.

OPEN AIR 2024

Another SAFC Open Air Extravaganza delivered!!!!  What a fantastic day of fencing, food & fun with mostly decent weather and it stayed sunny & dry until almost the end.

With a great turn out on the day (18 Foil / 11 Epee / 7 Sabre & 4 MAA) meant a huge amount of bouts to get through, which amazingly we did, by lunchtime!  According to JD’s maths, at the end of the Poule stage:

Foil: 1038 hits scored in 171 bouts

Epee: 395 hits scored in 66 bouts

Sabre : 146 hits scored in 21 bouts

TOTAL: 1,579 hits scored across 258 bouts.  WOW!!

Some pictures from the day (click to enlarge any photo):

Unfortunately, Charlie T had to leave us at this point, but not before he collected the MAA Trophy.  And it must be said that Charlie finished the poule stage in 1st place in Epee and 2nd place in Foil & Sabre so would have featured in the semi-finals for all 3 weapons, had he not had to leave.

2024 MAA: Charlie T

The final 4 in each weapon:

EPEE from L to R: Richard R (3), Alex (1) James B (2), David (3)
FOIL from L to R: Peter (3), Daniel (3), Austen (2), Alex (1)
SABRE from L to R: Luke (3), Philip (3), Deco (1), Daniel (2)

And the full results for the record:

These events do not happen without a lot of work beforehand and on the day, so massive thanks must go out to the following, in no particular order:

JD (DT)

Simon, Matt & Jane, Dom & girls, Luke, Edwyn & Olu that all helped clear the courts on Saturday pm.

Jorel & Edwyn for marking out the pistes.

Philip (Drinks)

Richard R (Beer & Leaf-blower)

Giles (Food shopping)

Coach Tony (Piste equipment; unfortunately couldn’t fence)

Peter S (Photography)

Aaron, Edwyn’s Fatther (Food service)

And everyone that helped with setting up, tearing down and self-reffing all those bouts!

So that’s a wrap for the Open Air for 2024…….. see you next year?!

AND FINALLY…

Good luck to Lisa, Rachel & Richard R who are representing Eastern Region at the Veteran’s Winton Cup this weekend.

Massive congratulations to our two sabreurs Rudolf & Agnieszka on getting married!!!!!
