TONIGHT 01.10
It’s the start of our Beginner Course! Please give our new fencers the usual warm SAFC welcome and if you see anyone looking lost please help point them in the right direction of Coach Andy.
For everyone else, there will be a group warm up followed by free sparring / individual lessons with Head Coach Laura – please book your slot via the whiteboard.
NEXT THURSDAY: CLUB COMPETITION NIGHT
Next week is going to be club competition night. The format is still being finalised but will probably be a Poule Unique format, each bout being up to 5 points or 3mins fencing time. You can enter in Foil or Epee but not both. There will be a prize for the top spot in each weapon. Please note, it’s not compulsory and if you just want to do free sparring instead, we’ll provide a spare piste.
LUTON MATCH REPORT
Last Thursday we hosted Luton Swords Club for a Three Counties League match

Match report by SAFC’s Team Captain, David:
Luton arrived early with a full complement and seemed to outnumber us to start despite it being a home match. We gathered our forces and fenced foil and epee simultaneously. The foil started well, the epee less so, winning and losing 2 out of the first 3 respectively. Overall it was fairly even the foil finished first with a 5/4 win with the Epee at 5/3 and John who had yet to win up. John managed a convincing win, tying the evening. Thanks to John, James B, JD, Matthew R and Simon. Current ranking St Albans 1st in foil, 4th in Epee and 3rd overall.
Our away match at Bedford has been moved to Tues. 20.October. If you are available to fence, please let David know.
CLUB LADDER LEAGUE: Q3 RESULTS
Congratulations to Bryant who takes the top spot in both weapons. We think this is possibly the first time someone has done this.
Worthy runners-up are JD (Foil) and David W (Epee) with Matthew R taking the bronze medal in both weapons – also an achievement in itself.
LONDON REGION TEAM COMP: SUNDAY 18/10
As this is a TEAM competetion, the Club will cover the team entry fee.
If you’re interested in taking part, please let us know and we’ll try to help pull a team together.
LAST BUT BY NO MEANS LEAST…
…DID SOMEONE SAY CHRISTMAS?
It’s never too early so please note the date:
the Club Christmas Meal will be on Thursday 10th December (so, no fencing that night)
Venue will be the Prae Wood Arms again, though a bigger and better room this time. There will be a quiz run by our very own Christmas Elf Bita and an optional Secret Santa….. ooooooh.
We’re just finalising the details and places will be available to book soon, but please note the date for now.
See you on the piste… en garde! SAFC
